The partnership brings insurance advice, on-site risk assessment, practical security improvements and ongoing monitoring into one coordinated service.
London, United Kingdom
YAVA and Compass Point Assist have announced a strategic partnership designed to help organisations improve the security of their assets while giving insurers clearer evidence of how risk is being managed.
The partnership introduces a first-of-its-kind independent model that connects insurance advice directly with on-site technical assessment, security improvements and continued monitoring.
Rather than treating insurance and asset security as separate activities, Compass Point Assist and YAVA will work together to identify risk, verify what is actually in place at the asset and correct weaknesses before they result in a loss.
Compass Point Assist will provide insurance advice, risk placement support, market access and relationships across the insurance sector.
YAVA will provide the engineering and technical delivery. Its teams will attend assets in person to assess physical security, cyber controls, IT infrastructure, operational technology and staff procedures.
The assessment will examine three connected areas of risk:
External controls, including perimeter security, cameras, access control and evidence retention
Internal controls, including networks, identity management, cloud systems, operational technology, backup and recovery
Human controls, including staff behaviour, credential handling, incident reporting and response procedures
The findings will be presented through a clear risk score, loss pathway analysis and prioritised improvement plan.
Where weaknesses are identified, YAVA can design and implement the required improvements. These may include network changes, access control upgrades, camera and perimeter improvements, backup systems, staff training and incident response procedures.
The asset can then remain under review through scheduled reassessments, monitoring, maintenance and reports prepared ahead of insurance renewal.
This gives insurers stronger evidence when considering risk, pricing, terms and coverage. It also gives operators a practical route to improve security rather than simply documenting the problems that exist.
Harry Geisler, Founder of YAVA, said:
"The purpose of this partnership is to use the insurance relationship to make assets safer."
"Compass Point Assist helps clients and insurers understand where clearer evidence and stronger controls are needed. YAVA then goes to the asset, assesses what is actually in place, corrects the weaknesses and keeps the risk position under review. "
"This gives insurers better information, gives operators practical improvements and helps prevent avoidable losses before they happen.”
Mike O'H, Head of Risk Strategy at Compass Point Assist, said:
“Together, we help clients demonstrate that risk is being managed, not simply transferred.”
The partnership is intended to change the role insurance can play in asset security.
Insurance has traditionally focused on transferring the financial effect of a loss. Through this partnership, insurance relationships can also support practical action to reduce the likelihood and severity of that loss.
Clients will be able to demonstrate that identified risks have been assessed, improvements have been completed and security controls remain current throughout the insurance period.
The service will be relevant to organisations operating across critical infrastructure, hospitality, aviation, ports, logistics, energy, commercial property, financial services, government and other sectors where operational disruption can create significant financial and security consequences.
It will be particularly valuable for organisations with multiple, remote or difficult-to-assess assets, where questionnaires and desktop reviews may not accurately reflect the systems, controls and working practices in place.
The partnership will offer three initial ways to engage:
Pilot assessment
A full on-site assessment of one complex or high-value asset, followed by a risk score, findings report and practical improvement plan.
Portfolio review
A review of a selected group of assets to identify where the greatest risks exist and where improvements can have the greatest effect.
Ongoing programme
A longer-term arrangement covering assessment, security improvements, monitoring, maintenance and reassessment across a defined portfolio of assets.
YAVA and Compass Point Assist will also establish a joint affiliate programme for brokers, insurance advisers, technical specialists and regional partners.
The programme will help identify organisations that require stronger evidence of risk and connect them with the appropriate insurance, assessment and engineering support.
