Earlier this May, YAVA representatives Harry Geisler and William Arthey attended the 2025 London Defence Conference at King’s College London’s Bush House. The event, themed “Alliances,” convened global leaders, defence innovators, and policymakers to address the evolving challenges of modern security.

Strategic Vision from the UK Prime Minister
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer opened the conference with a compelling keynote, declaring, “National security is economic security.” He announced the most significant overhaul of Britain’s military since World War II, including plans to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027, with aspirations to reach 3% in the following parliament. This initiative encompasses a £563 million contract with Rolls-Royce for the maintenance of Typhoon fighter jets and aims to position the British defence industry as a catalyst for national renewal.
Global Collaboration and Key Participants
The conference featured a diverse array of participants, including Defence Secretary John Healey, the Ukrainian Ambassador and delegation, and a bipartisan U.S. Congressional delegation from the For Country Caucus. Discussions centered on strengthening alliances, enhancing deterrence, and fostering transatlantic cooperation.
YAVA’s Commitment to Defence Innovation
As defence and technology continue to converge, YAVA is dedicated to advancing dual-use systems, driving innovation, and building strategic partnerships essential for global security. Our participation in the London Defence Conference underscores our commitment to supporting initiatives like the ReArm Europe Plan and the Strategic Defence Review, emphasizing the importance of resilience beginning at home with industry at the forefront.
Looking Ahead
The London Defence Conference 2025 highlighted the critical role of industry in safeguarding borders and supporting defence readiness. YAVA remains steadfast in its mission to contribute to this collective effort, ensuring that innovation and collaboration continue to strengthen global security.
